After meeting many plus size brides in recent years, we summarised 5 tips for plus-size wedding dress shopping in UK.
1. Find bridal shops who offer a good range of plus sizes dresses!
To find the bridal shop or dress maker who understand what a plus-size bride’s needs, that is the key to start a smooth and less stressful wedding planning journey. Sometimes the shop doesn’t need to have a wide range of Plus size dresses, but if they are experienced at selling/making dress sizes over UK18 or bigger, the bridal consultant should be able to share her knowledge with the bride-to-be and guide her to find the best look for this bride.
2. Open mind!
Quite often what the bride finally chosen was not her initially imagined to have. So, keep an open mind! You will be surprised about what you can get or create for your big day look, whatever your size is. Don’t be stress too much on the silhouettes, actually you can wear more styles that you think. In recent 2 years, we have seen more plus size brides wearing mermaid dresses, comparing to years ago Aline dress was the mainstream choices.
3. Dress size is not a problem!
Understand your body shape. Brides’ sizes can be any, it is a gift to have a curve body shape and this is your natural and unique body figure. The most flattering shape with your favorite detailing that sit well on you will be “the one”. Of course, usually plus size dresses need some alteration touches to achieve the perfect look.
4. Alteration matters!
How much the alteration costs? This question has been asked by many customers at our boutique. The money cost for alteration matters, average this year our bride spent £100-£200 and mermaid dress alteration cost was higher, but also the time cost and the effect of alteration can be also important matters at the final shopping stage, when it comes to a plus-size dress alteration. Plus-size brides specially need the bridal shop who is specialized in plus size range, also are experienced at doing curve-shape brides’ alteration.
5. Be relax and start your shopping earlier.
Due to the modern and Intelligent Manufacturing development, wedding dress making becomes much quicker than even before. Many brides does not have to start shopping 12-18 months in advance, but plus-size girls plan their bridal journey at least one year earlier, will give them enough time to search for the right dress and get all the dress details sorted out smoothly at the right time step by step.
